Your Wish Is Your Command

By: Paul Kearley

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?
~Nelson Mandela

I am a creature of habit. As a matter of fact, you are too. Practically all that you think, and all that you do is a result of following habitual practices. It is when we break out of our habits that we create success in our lives. Let me explain.

Three weeks ago, I was in a bit of a hard place. I had one of my projects starting and I was short by about 3 people before I could start it. I tried all that I knew to find the people that I needed to find, yet I was getting the same poor results. All of my experience in marketing and all of my experience in sales wasn’t getting me anywhere. I had gotten to the point where I was dreading going to work in the morning because I wasn’t able to see any results from what I had been doing. My sales habits and my sales skills just weren’t cutting it any more, and I wasn’t progressing, and as a result, I was starting to get down on myself (which is also sometimes a habit of mine).

Late one afternoon, two days before the “go” date of my project, I decided to make a change. I was sitting in my car in a busy parking lot and I was trying to decide what I should do. I had a major decision to make: do I postpone the project and possibly lose many of the people who had already registered, or do I make up my mind to move heaven and earth to get what I needed? I decided to get in the moving business. As I sat there, pencil in hand, I decided to list the possible steps that I could take to find new business. I wrote, “Call on companies that you have never called on before”. Then I wrote, “look around you, everything that you need is close at hand.” I didn’t know what that really meant, so I looked up at my surroundings, and right in front of me, across the intersection was a large company that I have never called on before. “Can it really be that easy?” I thought, and decided to give it a go.

I walked in that place like I owned it. I walked up to the front desk, business card in hand, and said “Hello, I am here to see your senior manager. Can you please tell me his or her name?” The receptionist didn’t even bat an eye, and told me the name. I then replied, “She doesn’t know me, but she will want to talk with me when she sees how I can make her life easier. Can you please let her know that I am waiting?” Off she went and returned a minute later and announced that I should wait five minutes and the manager would see me then. I said a very calm thank you and then proceeded to ask the receptionist all I could about the company before I got to meet the manager: I wanted to sound informed and confident. The receptionist then asked me a few questions about the company that I worked for and proceeded to say, “The manager never sees people off the street, and she never buys training from an outside source. We have our own, and it’s very good, so you may be wasting your time.” I had an answer ready to go, when the manager walked in on the conversation, so I dropped it. She introduced herself, and said very curtly, “I have 15 minutes: follow me”. Determined that this was going to be the solution to my dilemma, I struck up a conversation with her on the way, just to create rapport and start to build a positive experience. By the time we reached her office, we were talking like we had known each other for years, and in the office, it continued. I found out about her family, her company history, her challenges, her strengths and even what she wanted in the future. It was a wonderful learning experience that allowed us both to connect. An hour and a half later, I walked out of her office with her having enrolled three people in my project. On the way out, she stated, “This is really unprecedented. I never see people off the street, and I never buy outside training. You have to meet our senior team, because they are never going to believe me. You are the best salesperson that I have ever seen.” If only she could have seen me before I walked into her office. It wasn’t easy for me to walk in that building and ask to see the manager, but I “knew” that at that moment in time, I was supposed to be there and I was supposed to ask. Actually, “sales” had very little to do with it.

So, what really happened here? Did I have a magic lamp that I rubbed to produce a genie who would grant me my wishes: Not at all. Did I, by some new age trickery convince her to buy from me? Nope. Was it a sly strong arm sales technique to fool them into thinking that they had to do what I wanted them to do? Again, no. There was nothing underhanded at all at work here, except a very powerful law: The law of attraction, which states that “What you think and believe to be possible is”. “Well”, you may be saying “if it’s that simple, why isn’t everyone doing it?” The simple answer is that our habit of thinking doesn’t allow for us to. We usually talk ourselves out of something long before we get the gumption to do it; it’s what we’ve been trained to do.

Stop before you get hurt… you’ll never amount to anything… you’re a loser… you can never win… you’re not big enough… you’re not strong enough… you’re not tall enough… you’re not smart enough… you’re not… Not what? Why do we let others determine who we are and what we can achieve in our lives? Do we grant those same people authority over our self worth? Yeah, I guess we sometimes do. We are all sometimes guilty of that. But we don’t have to be. We can make up our minds today, right now to accept nothing but positive into our lives. We can implement our own laws of attraction. We are the genies of our own lives, where our wish is ours to command!

What do you want to be or do? What have you done about making it come to life? Are you just talking about it, or are you taking action on it? You see, while it (the law of attraction) is the universal law of the universe, it will only happen if we believe that we can attract what we want into our lives, and it will only happen if we then take action on it. To believe is not enough; you must put your belief into bold actions before what you want will arrive on your doorstep.

It is really that easy. I’m serious! What you want may not happen today, or tomorrow or even next week, but if you constantly focus on what it is that you desire, and take the appropriate actions, you will, with certainty, create your results.

This week, be determined to stay laser focused on whatever it is that you want. Resist the negatives that may try to come creeping in under the door, and then, by the law of attraction, it will become yours. Your wish is your command.

Make this your best week ever!
