Video Is Changing The Way We Communicate And Advertise - See How - And Understand Why

By: Mitchell Yow

Streaming video is changing the way we communicate in and out of business and at an amazing rate. Video e-mail, video instant messaging, video blogging and video web casting are the hottest new crazes in the communication industry. First viewed by the business world as only a toy, streaming video is now finding its way into main stream corporate America and beyond.

If you have not considered video in your communication and or advertising you might want to take a closer look at a few facts concerning video marketing and video communication trends.

Nike, Verizon, GM, Chrysler and many other large and not so large companies are adopting video advertising and placing their video ads in such places as You Tube. In fact it is estimated that around $410 million was spent in online video advertising in 2006. Estimates by industry experts say that number will be $775 million this year and climb to over $3 billion by 2009. And there is good reason for these estimates.

1. Many of the younger generation are giving up TV time and replacing it with more online time in social networks and on sites like My Space and You Tube. Add to this that the viewership of sites like You Tube are growing in age with many viewers being over 35.

2. Video advertising is a lot less expensive than TV ads and the market audiences are getting huge. In fact 107.7 million people in the US alone are said to have watched online video in 2006. That is about 1/3 of the US population and estimates put that number around 157 million US viewers by 2010.

3. Video web casting also levels the playing field for smaller businesses. Auto dealerships, dentist and doctor offices, real estate offices, mortgage brokers and virtually every other type of small business can afford and benefit from getting involved in video advertising campaigns. Here the companies are easily creating and imbedding streaming video right into their existing web sites and into e-mail campaigns. With 73% of US consumers online and 66% preferring to do business online, more and more businesses are adding video to their web sites and communication every year.

4. Advertising aside, personal communication is also moving into the realm of video with video e-mail, video instant messaging and video blogging. It is estimated that there are currently in the neighborhood of 50 billion e-mails sent everyday. It is further estimated that within the next two years more than 30% of those e-mails could be sent with video attached.

5. This comes as no surprise when you consider that nearly 37 years ago Scientists proved that only 35% of a message was received through hearing and the other 65% through facial expressions and body language. And that 30% more of a message that is received, is remembered when it is received through both sight and hearing.

6. We are visual beings. This is why TV is more popular than radio and why video e-mail will virtually replace text e-mails and telephone conversations over the next few years. Given the choice would you rather be told or shown? Read about it or see it live? And when it comes to long distance communication would you not rather see the person you are speaking with?

7. The internet is mature so the infrastructure is in place. Broadband is here, in fact, over 66% of all people online now have broadband and that percentage grows daily. Video communication and video advertising is here to stay and is enriching the businesses and people that embrace it.

8. Google purchased You Tube (a two year young company) for over 1.6 billion dollars because it is worth that to their future. Find out what video communication and video advertising is worth to you and to your business future.
