Oversee.net, a technology-driven media company headquartered in Los Angeles, CA, is set to sponsor Hoop It!, a community-oriented fundraising event organized by KIPP LA Prep, a free, public charter school. Located in Lincoln Heights, KIPP LA Prep is dedicated to providing a rich and well-rounded education to low-income students grades 5-8. Set to take place on October 21st at 11am, Hoop It will feature a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and a celebrity exhibition game benefiting the students of KIPP LA PREP. “KIPP LA PREP is one of the most inspiring educational success stories of the Los Angeles area,” said Oversee.net CEO Lawrence Ng. “Despite 97% of students coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, the students of KIPP LA PREP far exceed the test results of students in similar areas of Los Angeles. In fact, they have scored second among all Los Angeles Unified School District Middle Schools. This is a testament to the great work being done by the administration, faculty and students at KIPP LA PREP.” Eduardo Xol ("Extreme Makeover: Home Edition") will emcee the event. Celebrity participants include Cylk Cozart ("16 Blocks"), Sam Page ("The Brotherhood"), Elimu Nelson ("Love Don’t Cost A Thing"), Lane Garrison ("Prison Break"), Arlen Escarpeta ("The Ten" & "We Are Marshall") and Jonathan Lipnicki ("Stuart Little 2"). Esai Morales, Chandra Wilson, Ming-Na, Ed Harris, Amy Madigan, and Elisabeth Rohm are host committee members. A true representation of Los Angeles community spirit, parents commit time to the school and support their children’s education in many ways, including participating in events, installing computers and audio-visual equipment, volunteering in the library and even light construction work. Additionally, KIPP LA Prep students and teachers attend school 5 ˝ days a week and participate in summer school as well. Kathy Yeung, Senior Director of Operations at Oversee.net and Chair of the KIPP LA Prep Board of Directors, remarked, “As a part of the Los Angeles community, we, at Oversee, feel it is our responsibility to give back to organizations like KIPP LA Prep, who are giving disadvantaged youths in our neighborhoods a chance to make their dreams a reality.” And as Oversee continues to grow and increase its presence in the Los Angeles area, their commitment to giving back to the community also grows. Added Yeung, “From sending 50 employees to participate in AIDSWALK:LA and raising over $18,000 to our involvement in this wonderful fundraiser, we feel it is our responsibility as a growing Los Angeles company to improve the lives of those around us.” About Oversee.net Oversee.net is a technology-driven media company.
