By the Cemetery By a Monument Installer YourselfAgain, some Cemeteries install headstones and grave markers. They usually install upright headstones if they sell them themselves and in most cases install the flat grave markers. Please check with your cemetery if the do installations. They will charge a fee for installation. If they don't, then the headstone can be sent to the a monument installer. They will have a fee for this. Installing headstones can be done on your own. We will explain the procedure for you. You will more than likely need a foundation poured before the headstone is to be installed.Pouring the foundation. Dig a hole the length and width of the base of the headstone if you are ordering an upright headstone. If it is a flat grave marker, then measure the length and width of the marker itself. Then, dig down about 1-2 feet if it is a flat marker and 2-3 feet deep if it is an upright headstone. Mix together a cement gravel mix, pour and level. Usually, you should wait several days before you attempt to install the memorial to ensure the cement has cured properly.Although, installing grave markers is simple, it is important that you know that they start at approx 130 lbs and go up to over 550 lbs. Upright headstones start at about 450 lbs and can go up to thousands of pounds and in many cases need a professional to install them for you.
