Facelift: A Simple and Effective Procedure

By: Daniel Beasley

With age there comes wisdom. This is one of most positive benefits of getting older. However, with aging there also there come wrinkles. Needless to say, there are many would prefer not to deal with this aspect of aging. Thankfully, a little bit of that aforementioned wisdom has found its way into the medical profession. The result is facelift, a cosmetic surgery procedure that eliminates the appearance of wrinkles.

Very few people have not heard about this procedure. That is because it is one of the oldest and simplest cosmetic procedures ever performed. (The facelift was first developed as a surgical procedure in 1901.) Because so many professionals have performed facelift procedures over the years, it is about as close to a perfected procedure as possible. That is why so many potential recipients have a well founded confidence in its outcome.

But what exactly does a facelift entail? Essentially, the process involves making an incision at various points in the face. These incisions can be under the hairline, near the ears, or combinations of both. Then, the skin is separated from the muscle at the incision point. Afterwards, the skin is pulled (lifted) beyond the incision point in order to tighten the skin. This is what outright eliminates the wrinkles. The next step involves stitching the skin to the muscle in a tight manner so that wrinkles do not redevelop. The final step involves removing the excess, hanging skin and suturing the remaining skin in place. Again, this is a very simple and self-explanatory procedure that comes with few (if any) complications. Best of all, scarring is rarely a concern since the procedure has been so well perfected.

The appearance of wrinkles can be quite distracting. Thankfully, a facelift procedure provides a solution to this problem. Considering the fact that facelifts have been performed since 1901, it is likely that it will remain a fixture in the cosmetic surgery profession for many more years to come.
