Factory workers, musicians, airport workers, construction workers, workers in many other industries, and people who ride motorcycles, use firearms, or participate in any number of activities with loud noises can damage their hearing from excessive noise. There are various types of earplugs available to help protect hearing in these circumstances. EARPLUGS FOR INDUSTRIAL AND CONSTRUCTION WORKERS Factory workers, machinists, automakers, construction workers, airport personnel (especially those with jobs on the tarmac), and many other blue-collar workers work in loud environments. Machines in auto and other industrial plants, tools in home building and other construction jobs (including power saws, jack hammers, and sand blasters), and vehicles (including airplanes and large trucks) can produce excessive noise, which could potentially damage workers hearing. To better preserve their hearing, these workers tend to wear noise-reducing earplugs. There are several types of earplugs available to help these workers, including corded earplugs (which can hang around a worker's neck when not in use) and earplugs with removable handles (allowing for easy insertion and removal). EARPLUGS FOR MUSICIANS Musicians, especially those in rock bands, are often subjected to loud performances, which can damage their hearing. Using basic noise-blocking earplugs can diminish the musician's ability to clearly hear the notes that he or she is playing and can affect the quality of the performance. Because of this, specially designed earplugs have been developed to reduce the volume of the music the musician is being subjected to, but allows for bass and tremble levels to be clearly heard. These earplugs, sometimes referred to as "hi-fi" earplugs, allow musicians to protect their hearing without compromising their performance. EARPLUGS FOR LIGHT SLEEPERS Industrial workers aren't the only ones who rely on earplugs. Typically, softer, more comfortable, and less expensive earplugs are available for people who need to block sounds, like a snoring bed partner, to help them sleep.
