A Handy Guide To Preventing Colon Cancer

By: JohnJamesPnP

A large bowel cancer is called colon or colorectal cancer. It is a growth in your bowels that engulfs part or all of your intestines through to your rectum. Sometimes even your appendix is also affected.

Colorectal cancer is another name for colon cancer. It affects your colon, your appendix, your rectum and your large intestine. A lot of people don't seem to know about it because it does not hold quite as big a name as, say, breast cancer. However, colon cancer kills too.

No one likes to get their backside inspected, but it is what you are going to have to put up with when you are suspected of having a colon cancer. It’s got a fancy name too – colonoscopy; making it sound all medical and sophisticated. But really, all it is is a doctor probing your behind with a… er, probe thing.

After a colonoscopy by which your colorectal tumor can be diagnosed, you are most likely going to need a surgery to get rid of the cancer. Colorectal cancer is such that it is difficult to address without something invasive in this nature. This however is only the first step. Much of the time, other processes follow also.

A colorectal cancer is a cancer of your large intestine. This means that the cancer has infected all or parts of you rectum, your colon, and the lower part of your intestinal tract. The best way to have it diagnosed is to get a colonoscopy.

Colonoscopy, surgery, chemotherapy. This is often the chain of processes from diagnosis to cure for colon cancer. If complications arise along the way, you might have to include a number of other not-too-pleasant steps amongst these, but primarily, this is it.

Cancer, it seems, is breathed in by citizens from the very atmosphere. Every year, millions of cases are recorded all over the world. The United States alone records as many as one hundred thousand diagnoses that are purely colon cancer. Little wonder the death toll is so high.

Diagnosed annually in the United States are upward of a hundred thousand colon cancer cases. Added to this, there is another forty thousand cancer diagnoses which are tumors in the rectum. With these numbers, it can only be expected that there will be lots of casualties. But, this is no excuse for anyone to rest on their oars.
