5000 humble hits for the infinity

By: aseem

In this article we will review a personal blog, named 'The Infinity', the discussion will be based on the blog's design, USP, readership pattern etc. The blogger is a 23 year old student from India named Aseem Sood, currently doing B.Tech. at Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT). Though he is doing an engineering course, his content suggests that he looks to have more of a personal inclination towards journalism and writing. We find the blogger talking about his college life and how he is doing the studies just for the sake of it. Also he shares his thoughts on a variety of topics, from Music to Sports to college life, friends, crushes, movies and so on.

The uniqueness of this blog is that its content is a kind of mix between a personal blog and a blog on current events. The blogger vents out his feelings on how education sometimes has nothing to do with what a person really wants to do with life. The blog also has opinions on some current issues. For example: about Musharraf, Obama getting elected etc.

Considering the typography of the blog, the good thing is that the blogger has mostly used Verdana and this has improved readability of the blog. Coming to the design of the blog, the blog's header has an image of some disco party, and on the base of this image there is a green band which doesn't match with the blue image. Also the text on the image “debate is the end of conversation....” could have been given better contrast to improve readability. And the scrolling message “Confused” could have been placed some where else; this could have cleared some space for the most recent blog, so that people need not scroll to see the latest blog.

The background of the body text looks some what dull, making the text less readable. Also, the links in the footer of the blog has very little contrast with the green background. The blog has too many widgets in an effort to make it more dynamic and colorful, which has affected the navigation to some extent. Anyways, this looks like an USP to relate to the audience on a friendly level, and hence such colorfulness can be tolerated to some extent.

I felt that the content about the bloggers's life at JUIT and also current events and varied subjects addresses to a different kind of readership pattern and thereby improves the uniqueness of the blog. But the posting of blogs needs to be more consistent, like a blog a day. This is required to improve readership, as it looks like a fairly new blog. Nevertheless, the blog has made it to the 5000 hits mark by addressing to a wide audience among friendly and casual visitors who share similar interests with the blogger..

The blog hence has what it takes to make it big with only a few tweaks to improve visual appeal. On one hand the blog talks about current issues and events and on the other hand it takes the shape of aseem's personal blog. These are different kinds of content on the same blog and the blogger has done well to juggle between different writing styles required for creating these varied blogs. This has helped improve the uniqueness of the blog to some extent. Finally, I can say that the blog contains all the essentials to make it big in blogosphere, provided it can improve on navigation a little bit, by reducing unnecessary widgets, and choosing better colors to improve the overall visual appeal of the blog.
